Hello everyone! I created this page to help everyone learn how to do the stuff that you do not learn in school. These are all instructions on how to do 'adult' things like get a job, or deposit a check. Thank you for reading!
Get a job
- Look up what places are hiring in your area
- Make sure you can afford the gas to drive to your job if it is far away ( If the gas costs more than you make, try and find a job closer to home)
- See if they have applications online or go into the place you want to apply and ask for an application.
- After you fill out your application( DO NOT LIE ON YOUR APPLICATION), make sure that you still go in person and say that you applied. This will show the employer that you really want the job.
- If they like you, the employer will call you for an interview.
- To prepare for your interview, review what you said on your application because they will ask you about it. In my personal experience they usually ask about your accomplishments and what you do in your free time. You have to make a good first impression, so dress nice and smile a lot.
- Hopefully, you will be a good fit for the position, and they will hire you.
Open a bank account
After you get a job, you will need a bank account so they can do a direct deposit of your check each time you are paid.
- First you have to choose what bank you want. I am currently banking with BB&T
- All you have to do is go inside the bank and say that you want to open a checking account. You can bring your parent or guardian with you as well.
- The person at the bank will tell you everything you need to know and help you set up your account!
Create a budget
Once you have an income, you will be able to create a budget
- Figure out how much money you will make each month
- Figure out how much money you need to spend each month (gas, insurance, food, rent, etc...)
- After you figure out how much you can spend on each of your necessities, what ever amount is left over can be put in your savings.
- Check out my "tips" page for help creating a budget online
Deposit a check/cash
If you ever need to deposit a check into your bank account, follow these simple steps.
- You will need to get some deposit slips from your bank
- You fill them out like the example one that I made using a deposit slip from BB&T
- Finally, you go through the drive thru or go inside and you give them the check you want to deposit and the deposit slip. They will give you a receipt and the money will show up in your account!
